This year's National Leadership Conference was a great success. The keynote speaker was Congressman Dan Lungren (R-CA). Congressman Lungren serves as chairman of the Homeland Security Subcommittee. We had many first-time attendees, and everyone found it to be a productive trip to discuss with legislators important burn care issues. The first legislative issue for discussion was the Children's Access to Reconstructive Evaluation and Surgery ("Cares") Act and the need for insurance to cover reconstructive procedures for burned children. The other bill discussed with legislators was the Fire Sprinklers Incentive Act of 2011. This act provides accelerated depreciation for automatic fire sprinkler systems to make them more affordable and available, helping to prevent fires and burn injuries.
