§
Along with the basic guidelines listed
on the previous slide, special considerations are involved in treating
electrical and chemical burns.
The first rule for
an electrical burn is to stay away from the injured person until you are sure
the power has been turned off.
For a chemical burn,
assuming the injury source presents no further threat to the person providing
assistance, the first step is to flush the affected area with running water
for at least 20 minutes.
If the area affected
by the chemical burn is still painful, continue to flush until the pain
stops.
