Welcome and Call To Order (Jeffrey Saffle)

1. Summary of Grants

  • Boxer 1 ($2,000,000) through 9/2012
  • Transfusion Trigger ($2,300,000) through 9/2011 - 15 enrolled
  • ACT ($2,100,000) through 8/2012 - 31 enrolled, 18 completed
  • Combat Casualty ($7,999,000)
    • RESCUE - 11 sites, ready to enroll
    • PCR-based Staph Detection - enrollment begun
    • Effects of community based exercise program - enrollment begun
    • Glutamine
    • Inhalation scoring system
  • Evaluation of outcomes after burn injury ($4,000,000)
    • Comparison of NBR with NTDB
    • $1,000,000 investigator initiated burn trauma RFP coming soon
  • Military burn trauma research program
    • Propranolol safety and efficacy
    • Would consider more sites

2. Future Funding Possibilities (Susan Browning and Dan Crane)

  • 2011 funding of possible $8,000,000
    • Will have short window of opportunity to put a proposal forth
    • May not be a clinical trial
  • Possible POM (program operations memorandum)
    • 2 million in 2012
    • Steady funding after that

3. ABA Central Office (Susan Browning)

  • We have 22 million dollars in funding since 2008 (ABA + DCC + PI)
  • ABA program management office
    • Susan Browning, Kitty Vineyard, Mark Postilion and new financial person
  • After the ABA receives grant money
    • Contract negotiation begins
      • Must have justification for all proposals which requires extensive source documentation
    • Once enrollment begins
      • Must ensure administrative and fiscal compliance

4. Data Coordinating Center (Mary Beth Lawless)

  • Discussed DCC structure and function
  • Demonstrated the DCC website
  • Announced that DCC will submit all documents to HRPO

5. ABA Bylaws Changes

  • The Steering Committee is now called the Burn Science Advisory Panel (BSAP)
  • The 7th member of the committee is the ABA Research Committee Chair

6. Vote for New Member

  • Took nominations from the floor
  • Leopoldo C. Cancio, MD; Robert C. Cartotto, MD, FRCS; and David G. Greenhalgh, MD, FACS were nominated
  • Bios and election information will be posted on the website, a notice will be sent to all ABA members wihtin the next few weeks. Voting will be via the website.
