- About the Fellowship:
- The Burn Surgery Fellowship at UC Davis Regional Burn Center and Shriners Hospitals for Children – Northern California is an intensive and comprehensive burn fellowship program overseen by Jason Heard, M.D., Burn Surgeon and Assistant Professor of Burn Surgery at both UC Davis and Shriners Hospitals for Children – Northern California. Fellows gain extensive experience in the acute and reconstructive management of adult and pediatric burn patients. Clinical training takes place across both institutions, which jointly serve as the regional adult and pediatric burn centers for Northern California and care for approximately 700-900 inpatient burn admissions annually. Fellowship Positions Per Year: Three One-Year Combined Burn/Surgical Critical Care Fellowship (ACGME Accredited) - 2 positions: Eligible for the Surgical Critical Care Board Exam upon completion. One-Year Burn Surgery Fellowship (Non ACGME Accredited): Focused on burn surgery, burn research and burn reconstruction; additional training required for critical care board eligibility. Fellowship Training Includes: Acute resuscitation and ICU management of adult and pediatric burn patients Surgical management and reconstruction of acute burns Multidisciplinary rehabilitation, including nutrition and psychological support Reconstructive surgery for burn survivors Clinical research: Fellows are expected to complete at least one project and present an abstract at the American Burn Association national meeting
