About the Fellowship:
The Department of Surgery at UT Southwestern Medical Center and Parkland Hospital have two fellowship positions available for surgeons interested in advanced burn care. Our one-year ACGME-approved Burn/SCC Fellowship allows candidates to be board eligible in surgical critical care and obtain a burn certificate at the completion of their training. Clinical Experience Burn service: Six months at Parkland Memorial Hospital with exposure to acute and reconstructive burn surgery. Learning acute burn resuscitation, acute surgical management of burns, and basic reconstructive surgery of burn patients. Critical care: Five months in ICU settings, including SICU and CVICU, and one month in Anesthesia. Program Volume & Scope The burn service at Parkland Hospital is composed of six faculty members and admits over 900 patients per year, including adult and pediatric patients. The service performs over 600 burn and burn reconstructive cases per year and sees over 3,000 patients in our outpatient clinic. It is the only burn center in North Texas verified by the American Burn Association and the American College of Surgeons Committee on Trauma. Additionally, Parkland Hospital admits over 2,000 trauma patients and performs over 3,800 EGS and trauma procedures annually.
