- About the Fellowship:
- The West Penn Burn Center at Allegheny Health Network offers a one-year Burn Surgery Fellowship focused on all clinical aspects of acute and reconstructive burn care, including critical care, reconstruction, rehabilitation, scar modulation, and long-term functional recovery. Founded in 1969, the West Penn Burn Center is an ABA/ACS-verified adult burn center serving western Pennsylvania and the surrounding region while also caring for pediatric burn patients. The center is a 14-bed regional burn unit caring for more than 250 inpatient admissions and over 2,000 outpatient visits annually. Fellows will gain extensive experience in: • Acute burn resuscitation and critical care • Operative burn surgery including excision and grafting • Modern wound care strategies and regenerative technologies • Laser scar therapy and post-burn reconstruction • Longitudinal outpatient burn care • Multidisciplinary rehabilitation and recovery The burn service is staffed by two dedicated burn surgeons and supported by advanced practice providers and general surgery residents. Fellows work closely within a multidisciplinary burn team while gaining progressive operative autonomy, leadership experience, and exposure to the operational and quality improvement aspects of running a modern burn center. Opportunities are available for clinical research, program development, resident education, and participation in regional and national burn initiatives. Applicants should have completed a general surgery and/or plastic surgery residency. Candidates may also be considered with a minimum of three years of accredited training in general surgery or plastic surgery.
