The Department of Surgery at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center El Paso (TTUHSC-EP) seeks an academic burn surgeon to enhance our acute care surgery program that encompasses trauma, emergency surgery, surgical critical care, ECMO and burns. The successful candidate should enjoy teaching surgical critical care fellows, residents and medical students as well as pursuing research and other scholarly activities within the Surgery Department. Additional fellowship training or expertise in burn care is preferred. This is an excellent opportunity to have a pivotal role as the Surgery Department grows clinically and academically as a regional referral center for surgical disease to include burn care. The successful candidate will be employed by TTUHSC-EP at an academic rank commensurate with qualifications. The surgeon will provide patient care at University Medical Center of El Paso (UMC-EP) and El Paso Children’s Hospital. UMC-EP, as the only ACS-verified Level 1 trauma center for a 270-mile radius, annually admits approximately 3,600 trauma patients from a catchment area of 1.3M individuals in far west Texas and southern New Mexico. With the nearest ABA-verified burn center located 340 miles from El Paso, this is a unique opportunity to have a pivotal role as we develop our burn program. El Paso is the 6th most populous city in Texas and the 22nd in the United States. El Paso has been ranked as the city with the lowest cost of living by Forbes magazine and one of the safest cities in the United States. Exceptional public schools and private schools are available. The city has minor league baseball and soccer, symphony, museums, excellent dining options and shopping. The El Paso International Airport is easy to access, making travel simple and efficient. One can enjoy living in the mountains and skiing is just two hours away. The position requires a M.D. /D.O. degree, completion of an ACGME residency in general surgery and successful completion of a surgical critical care fellowship as well as board certification/eligibility in general surgery and surgical critical care. A track record in acute care surgery/trauma/burn research is an asset. The position is a full-time appointment at TTUHSC-EP and the salary is competitive.
