The Burn Unit Director leads the vision, strategy, and day-to-day operations of a highly specialized burn service, partnering with medical, administrative, and nursing leaders to deliver exceptional, lifesaving care. This role is responsible for building and advancing a high-performing burn program that reflects Valleywise Health’s mission, values, and commitment to excellence. Working closely with key stakeholders, the Director shapes and executes the strategic plan for the burn service line,driving innovation, optimizing patient flow, and strengthening clinical outcomes across the full continuum of care. The role champions evidence-based practice, quality improvement, and patient-centered care while ensuring services are accessible, efficient, and responsive to the needs of patients and families. The Director oversees all aspects of unit performance, including patient safety, regulatory compliance, policy adherence, financial stewardship, and workforce engagement. This leader fosters a culture of accountability, collaboration, and professional growth, guiding teams through change by influence, trust, and shared purpose rather than authority. The result is a resilient, high-reliability burn unit where staff feel supported and patients receive outstanding care in our Burn Center. Annual Salary Range: $133,057.60 - $196,268.80 Qualifications Education: Requires a master’s degree in nursing or Bachelor’s degree in nursing and a master's degree in a related field or must obtain a master's degree within four (4) years from the job's start date. Experience: Must have a minimum of seven (7) years of progressively responsible clinical experience within the service line that demonstrates a high level of understanding of the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Experience must include demonstrated leadership ability, preferably working in a related management position in a healthcare setting. Certification/Licensure: Must possess a current, valid AZ RN license, temporary AZ RN license, or valid compact RN licensure for the current state of practice. Must be in good standing with the issuing Board of Nursing. A BLS card obtained through an approved American Heart Association (AHA) training center will be required within 3 months. ACLS, PALS, ATNC, or other certifications may be required. In addition, certification or continuing education may be required based on area of practice. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Must have demonstrated competence in service line management, streamlining, and coordinating clinical services beyond traditional discipline boundaries and department-specific performance improvement, including integrating clinical, quality, and financial outcomes. Requires demonstrated experience in facilitating and implementing a strategic planning process with specific outcomes. Must have previously demonstrated experience in leading a successful change process with a multidisciplinary team that includes physicians and healthcare providers and demonstrated knowledge of managing and meeting budget outcomes. Must be able to read, write, and speak English. Must be a successful leader of people, have strong leadership skills, and the ability to motivate a team. Must be able to decide how to allocate people, time, and other resources to create, execute, and accomplish an operating or project plan on time and within budget. Must have solid analytical and problem-solving skills and the ability to utilize the appropriate management techniques to plan, organize, control, and coordinate activities. Must be able to manage priorities in a dynamic environment and adapt to change quickly and positively. Must demonstrate ability to be self-directed and excellent organizational, analytical, and interpersonal skills.
