Outreach and Injury Prevention: Burn Center and Community Collaboration for Shared Goals

The American Burn Association's Nursing Special Interest Group (SIG) invites you to join colleagues in a discussion focused on equipping nurses with practical knowledge and tools to lead and participate in collaborative efforts between burn centers and community partners to improve prevention, triage, continuity of care, rehabilitation, and psychosocial support. Tamara Roberts, MSN, RN, CBRN will also present on outreach efforts and strategies for collaborating with community partners. Whether you're looking to expand your knowledge or connect with peers in the field, this session provides a collaborative space for learning and professional development.

  • Outreach Efforts and Strategies for Collaborating with Community Partners

Meeting Objectives:

  • Describe nursing roles across the burn care continuum and how nurses interface with community partners (EMS, home health, public health, schools, and social services).

  • Identify three nurse-led or nurse-coordinated collaborative strategies to reduce burns and improve patient outcomes (prevention outreach, streamlined transfers, and follow-up coordination).

  • Draft a simple nurse-driven action plan for a joint initiative (e.g. post-discharge phone follow-up and home visits) with measurable process and outcome metrics.
