Burn Psychosocial SIG Meeting

The American Burn Association's Burn Psychosocial Special Interest Group (SIG) invites you to join colleagues in exploring how brief interventions (quick, teachable tools that mental health professionals use) that other members of the care team (nursing, PT/OT, medical providers, etc.) can learn to use directly with patients and families. The SIG will discuss what's currently being used informally across centers and how to empower non-mental health staff to utilize these interventions during patient/family interactions. The group will also spend time gathering input on topics and priorities for future meetings. Whether you're looking to expand your knowledge or connect with peers in the field, this session provides a collaborative space for learning and professional development.

Meeting Agenda: 

• Opening Round (10 min): Attendees share a brief intervention they currently use that could be taught to other team members

• Group Discussion- Brief Interventions (25 min): Participants discuss what is being used, what's working, and ways to empower other members of the burn team to use simple interventions that can be shared with non-mental-health staff

• Synthesis (5 min): Recap of interventions/ideas generated by the group

• Group Input: Future SIG Topics (15 min): Open discussion on what attendees want from upcoming meetings 

Meeting Objectives:

• Exchange practices across burn centers on how psychosocial support is integrated into routine care.

• Connect with peers across disciplines and identify priorities for future SIG topics.

• Identify brief, teachable, psychosocial interventions that non-mental-health team members can use with patients and families.  

Who should attend: Psychosocial staff and burn team members.
