Community Spotlight: IAFF International Burn Camp

Each fall, dozens of teen burn survivors from across the U.S. and Canada gather in Washington, D.C., for the International Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF) International Burn Camp, a life-changing week of friendship, healing, and discovery. Hosted by the IAFF Foundation, this annual event brings together young burn survivors and their mentors to build confidence, share stories, and find strength through community.

As IAFF Burn Coordinator and survivor Phil Tammaro shared, “This camp is not just about healing, it’s about growing together, building confidence, and discovering the strength that comes from community.” From first-time flights to visiting Arlington National Cemetery, campers experienced moments of courage, connection, and hope, reminding us that burn care extends far beyond the hospital walls. Their resilience reflects the same spirit that unites all of us in the ABA community, advancing healing, education, and leadership across every aspect of burn care.
