Why Burn Care Matters in Every Scenario
Monday, September 08, 2025
This summer, news from Virginia underscored why burn care expertise remains vital in so many unexpected circumstances. A local city councilman sustained life-threatening burns in an unthinkable act of violence, reminding us that severe burns can arise from accidents, disasters, or intentional harm. In those first moments, a bystander’s quick action saved his life. From there, it was burn professionals, guided by the standards and systems ABA has built, who ensured he received the complex, lifesaving care he needed.

Inspiration for ABA Members
This tragic story serves as a reminder of the strength and necessity of the ABA community, burn surgeons, nurses, therapists, and responders who meet patients on their worst day and walk with them through recovery. Every member plays a vital role in ensuring this readiness and resilience. It also reinforces why I am so proud to be part of ABA, supporting all of you in the lifesaving work you do every day.
